In a major urban area where schools are persistently overcrowded and under-performing, Aim High is a “life raft” for kids in the community during the summer, says middle school Principal Jim Dierke.
Aim High collaborates with the California State University system to serve low-income neighborhoods in San Francisco, Oakland, and East Palo Alto, with challenging, innovative, and highly supportive educational programs. The essence of the program lies in establishing strong adult-student relationships, providing multi-year support, and following the progress of its graduates into high school and beyond. Aim High has served more than 5,000 students over the past 22 years, and a recent study of the class of 2002 found that the vast majority graduated from high school on time and went to college.
