Summer Learning Day is a time for communities across the nation to celebrate the importance of high-quality summer learning opportunities in the lives of young people and their families.

Summer Learning Day focuses attention on how summer programs

  • send young people back to school ready to learn
  • support working families
  • help to keep children safe and healthy

In 2008, Summer Learning Day included over 250 registered events in 35 states and a major policy event in Washington, DC, where summer learning leaders from around the country made the case for increased federal investment in summer learning programs. The DC event also presented our first ever “Champions of Summer Learning” award to four policymakers who have made summer learning a policy priority.

 HOLD THE DATE

Plan to celebrate Summer Learning Day on Thursday, July 9, 2009.
