Summer learning advocates visiting Colorado Senator Michael F. Bennet's office
Yesterday, leaders of youth-serving organizations from across the country converged on Capitol Hill for the National Summer Learning Association's (NSLA) Summer Learning Advocates Hill Day.

Advocates met with staff from over 30 Congressional offices representing  12 states, as  well as staff from the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education at the U.S. Department of Education.

During the meetings, advocates thanked members for supporting education funding in the omnibus budget and asked for their continued support and protection of the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) program and the Corporation for National and Community Service (AmeriCorps) programs.

New Vision for Summer School Spotlight
A Message from MetaMetrics

Help Every Child Find "Just Right" Books This Summer
To support reading growth through the summer months, it's ideal for children to read books of interest to them and at their reading level. "Find a Book," is a free online book search that allows users to explore the Lexile® Book Database and build custom reading lists and then locate their selection at their local public library. The Lexile® Book Database comprises more than 115,000 fiction and nonfiction titles.

Help Fight Summer Math Loss
A child, regardless of socioeconomic status, loses more than 2.5 months of math skills during the summer.  As a fun way to keep math skills sharp, students can enroll in the Summer Math Challenge , a free program designed for students who have completed first through eighth grade.

College Signing Day

Former First Lady, Michelle Obama is encouraging people across the country to join her in celebrating College Signing Day on Wednesday, May 2 by wearing their college apparel and sharing the importance of  higher education on social media using #CollegeSigningDay and #BetterMakeRoom .

College Signing Day celebrates high school seniors choosing to pursue higher education at a professional training program, a community college, a four-year college or university, or the military and continues Mrs. Obama's efforts to inspire young people to pursue their education past high school.
