Inspiring curiosity, innovation and pathways to careers of the future.
The STEM & Medicine PLC brings together leaders of youth-serving organizations and initiatives to collaborate on enhancing summer learning experiences rooted in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine. Our goal is to strengthen and develop programs that prepare young people (pre-k through post-doc) for future STEM/medical careers.
STEM & Medicine jobs are growing at a rapid rate, but not all students have an equal shot at obtaining a career in these fields. At the same time, our nation has a shortage of qualified professionals to fulfill many STEM and healthcare roles. This PLC aims to build the capacity of STEM / medicine summer programs to meet this need.
Who Should Join:
- Program directors or coordinators with a STEM / health‐science focus
- Teachers, STEM specialists, health educators, or curriculum developers
- Medical professionals and STEM professionals interested in youth outreach
- Nonprofit / community organizations offering or expanding science, technology, engineering, math, or health programming
- Researchers or practitioners working in STEM / medical education or health equity
What We Offer / Key Features:
The STEM & Medicine PLC will provide quarterly virtual convenings and webinars that aim to:
- Hear from outside experts: Quarterly sessions bring in expert guest speakers focusing on topics that are relevant to our PLC from STEM pedagogy to fundraising.
- Share best practices: The members of the community are great sources for best and promising practices. Our virtual sessions create space for our members to share and learn from one another.
- Foster community / collaboration: Beyond learning we intend to foster a community of support and collaboration. We may be spread out across the country but we’re not in this work alone.
- Learn directly from students: One quarterly session each year focuses on directly learning from students who have participated in STEM/M programs. We invite students from various programs for a panel discussion to share their experience and insight.
