Get recognized for your summer program!
Each year, the National Summer Learning Association (NSLA) recognizes the outstanding work done during the summer months on behalf of our nation’s youth. Since 2004, the Excellence in Summer Learning Award program has been a critical strategy of the National Summer Learning Association (NSLA) to support the growth and visibility of high-quality summer learning programs.
Candidates for the Summer Learning Awards are exceptional summer programs, models, and systems that keep children and youth learning, safe and healthy during the critical summer months. They show strong outcomes in helping students cement the skills they have learned during the academic school year through creative curricula, unique programming and effective family engagement strategies.
There are three categories of Summer Learning Awards:
- The New York Life Foundation Excellence in Summer Learning Award, defined by its rigorous application and selection process, has recognized enrollment-based programs employing staff who work directly with youth since 2005.
- The New York Life Foundation Founder’s Award, established in 2015, recognizes informal programs, other non-traditional forms of summer learning innovation, that are critical to serving the diverse needs of schools, families, and children.
- The Lands’ End Love Learning Award, debuted in 2018, aims to shine a spotlight on quality programs that bring learning to life in informal learning spaces and support families in meaningful ways.
NSLA announces winners during National Summer Learning Week celebrations in July. More information and profiles of past winners are available on the event page of NSLA’s website.
Winning programs receive:
- a monetary award of $10,000, generously provided by the New York Life Foundation and Lands’ End;
- visibility during National Summer Learning Day and at the Summer Changes Everything™ national conference; and
- national and local media outreach, along with special spotlights in NSLA’s Summer Times e-newsletter.
